Alexis [Aleksei Fiodorvich] Aladin (1873 - 1927) was involved with the turbulent political history of Russia in the last years of the 19thC and into the first two decades of the 20thC.He came to London in 1900,having escaped Russia where he had been briefly imprisoned for political agitation. Returning to his native land in 1905 under a political amnesty,he rapidly rose to become leader of the Trudoviks, the revolutionary peasants’ party,in the First Russian Duma. But when Tsar Nicholas dissolved the Duma in 1906,Aladin was again exiled in England. He returned to Russia in 1917 under the auspices of the British Government and, having being imprisoned by the Bolsheviks,he then escaped to fight with the White armies in the Civil War, before returning to London in 1920.His last years in exile were overshadowed by poverty, illness and an exile's bitter frustration.[University of Manchester Library/ University of St Andrews.] Please contact seller, because of the lighter weight, and the value of this item, for correct, insured shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page! ** N.B.
